The Department of Physical Education at CHRIST University is dedicated to holistic student development through sports, fitness, and wellness education. Aligned with the University’s vision of excellence and integral formation, it nurtures students to grow both academically and athletically while cultivating values such as discipline, teamwork, integrity, and sportsmanship. Supported by expert faculty, modern facilities, and advanced training methods, the department provides a dynamic sporting environment that prepares students for participation in intercollegiate, national, and international competitions. It offers regular coaching, fitness training, intramural leagues, workshops, and wellness programmes, along with specialized training in sports like basketball, football, athletics, badminton, table tennis, volleyball, yoga, and traditional Indian games. Beyond competitive sports, the department integrates physical activity into student life through seminars, sports fests, certification programmes, and community outreach initiatives. With its student-centric approach and committed leadership, it continues to empower students to excel, build resilience, and lead healthy, responsible lives.
NextGenPE is an international conference organised by the Department of Physical Education, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), bringing together educators, researchers, sports scientists, health professionals, policymakers, and innovators to reimagine the future of Physical Education.
As a leading institution known for excellence in sports education, the Department of Physical Education at CHRIST hosts this conference as part of its commitment to advancing dynamic transformations in physical education driven by technological advancements, neuroscience, inclusive pedagogies, and evolving global health challenges.
NextGenPE aims to:
Spark interdisciplinary research and dialogue
Promote inclusive and adaptive approaches to physical education
Showcase innovation in sports science and technology
Strengthen global networks across academia, industry, and policymaking
Create actionable impact through knowledge sharing and collaboration
The landscape of Physical Education is undergoing a profound transformation. As classrooms evolve into hybrid learning environments and sports ecosystems witness the rise of data-driven training, VR/AR simulations, wearables, and AI-assisted coaching, the role of PE extends far beyond physical fitness. It now contributes to holistic learning, social bonding, leadership development, emotional resilience, and lifelong health literacy.
At the same time, global concerns around sedentary lifestyles, youth mental health, screen dependence, and unequal access to safe movement spaces have made physical education more critical than ever. The need of the hour is innovation that is inclusive, research-informed, and socially impactful. This international conference—NextGenPE: Innovation, Inclusion, and Impact—serves as a collaborative ecosystem to address these challenges and possibilities. The concept foregrounds three core ideas:
Embracing cutting-edge methods, technologies, and interdisciplinary approaches that enhance teaching, training, and performance. This includes digital tools, sports analytics, blended learning, adaptive equipment, and scientific breakthroughs.
Ensuring equitable access to movement and physical literacy for all learners—irrespective of gender, ability, socio-economic background, or learning needs. Inclusive PE models foster participation, dignity, and empowerment.
Measuring and understanding the real-world outcomes of PE: from health benefits and emotional well-being to community building, policy influence, and sustainable sports development.
